This project was borne out of an intuitive understanding that being aware of and contemplating death gives us more ability to grapple with the radically changing world we live in and the interdependence of all of our lives together. Traditionally, the largest benefit of death contemplation is samvega – a Pali word meaning something like right urgency, or spiritual urgency. This kind of urgency is about recognizing what’s important in life – what you actually want to do with this time on earth that you have. In addition to this, there are other benefits: more ability to cope with changing circumstances, illness, aging and of course death – whether yours or another’s. (More about the origins of this project here).
